The
municipality of Topolovgrad includes parts of the Tundzha river valley and
the Sakar mountain. The relief of the region is lowland and hilly. Due to
its geographic position the region enjoys mild winters, early springs, and
warm autumns. The average yearly rainfall estimate per square meter is
500-600 mm- lower than the national average and random in its seasonal
distribution. A great variety of coniferous and broad-leaved vegetation
covers one-third of the region's territory.
The region has deposits of mineral resources- sand, gravel, marble, granite, and quartz contributing to economic development. One of the major industrial sites in the region is the Topolovgrad based Ustrem EAD plant, producers of marble blocks, tiles, steps, granite blocks, pave and curb stones and recyclers of semi-finished metallurgical products and poly metallic ores. The clothing industry is represented by two local firms, one of which will also be offered for voucher privatization. A major industrial site is theTopolovgrad-Bulgartabac EAD tobacco producing plant whose principal activities include purchasing, processing and exporting tobacco nationally and internationally. This plant is also slated to be privatized by voucher. Agriculture in the region is represented by cultivating grain crops, technical crops including sunflower and tobacco, and perennial plants-mostly vineyards.
