Fred Lester Wixo

Fred Wixo, age 81, of Larimore, ND, passed away Sunday September 14, 2008 in Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, ND. Fred Lester Wixo was born October 7, 1926 near Petersburg, ND, the son of Anton and Hannah (Fredrikson) Wixo. He received Holy Baptism and confirmed his Christian faith at Lom Lutheran Church of rural Niagara, ND. He was raised and grew to manhood in Moraine Township, near Niagara. Fred received his education in a rural Niagara school. Fred then farmed until being inducted in the USA Army, serving during the Korean Conflict. After receiving his Honorable Discharge, he returned to Larimore where he managed the Larimore Improvement Association for several years. Fred was united in marriage to Beverly Boman on October 10, 1954 in Larimore.Fred later was employed by Altru Hospital in the housekeeping services until his retirement in 1990. He was also an insurance salesman for Walle Mutual Insurance for many years. He enjoyed his time with his pets Buddy and Buzzy. Surviving members of Fred's family include his wife Bev, Larimore; daughter Wendy (Rob) Conner, Moorhead, MN; sons Kevin (Jeanette) Wixo and Wade Wixo, both of Grand Forks; 3 grandchildren: Mandy Wixo, Jaron Conner, and Brianna Conner; a sister Alice O'Hara, Missoula, MT; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, infant sister Joan Wixo; sister Belinda Wiegandt, brothers: Jens, Harvey, Harold, Anthony and Einar. Funeral Services: Thursday, September 18 at 2 p.m. in Our Savior's Lutheran Church of Larimore. Interment: Bellevue Cemetery, Larimore. Military Honors: Ted Valerius Post No. 97, Larimore American Legion. Visitation: Wednesday, September 17 from 5-7 pm with a 7 pm prayer service held in the Bakke Funeral Home of Larimore. Visitation will resume for 1 hour prior to the funeral service in the church Thursday. Bakke FuneralHome, Larimore, ND.
